Tomáš Holý, Lead Trainer
Tomáš is from Kunice, a small picturesque village in Central Bohemia. Coming from a family of teachers while having the chance to regularly visit his close relatives in Brighton in the UK, inspired Tomáš to become a teacher of English. He started teaching English at the age of 21 and later obtained a master’s degree in teaching English as a foreign language at Charles University in Prague.
In 2012 Tomáš completed his doctoral studies in which he focused on second language acquisition theories and current approaches to English language teacher education. In the same year he became a Director of Studies for Threshold Training Associates in Prague where he works ever since.
In his free time Tomáš enjoys reading and writing poetry, playing drums and listening to music of various genres.
John Coan, Head Trainer
John originally comes from Whitehaven, a town in the north west of England. He obtained the Trinity TESOL certificate in London in 1993, and has been teaching English in Europe ever since. As well as the Czech Republic, John has worked in Spain, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Portugal and Germany.
Apart from training teachers on the TEFL International courses, John also works at Charles University and the British Council in Prague.
In his free time John enjoys listening to old rock music, watching TV, cooking and sketching.
Suzy Lewis, TEFL Tutor
Suzy is from Northampton in the UK. She first came to the Czech Republic to teach English in 2001, and worked for the British Council, Prague Metropolitan University, and as a teacher trainer. In 2009 she moved back to the UK to work as Director of Studies for Kaplan, Cambridge, and more recently has been teaching EAP in UK universities.
Suzy holds an MA in Applied Linguistics, as well as DELTA, CELTA and a specialist YL qualification.
She is currently herself a full-time student learning Czech at Charles University, and in her free time enjoys mountain biking and singing.
Jana Pekarkova, Trainee Coordinator
Jana originally comes from South Bohemia. In 2005 she went to the UK where she lived for almost 6 years, before returning to the Czech Republic and moving to Prague. While in Britain, she gained a lot of experience working in many different kinds of jobs.
Jana started working at Threshold in 2013 as a team assistant and really likes the variety of tasks and responsibilities in her work. She also works for Language Training, where she will be your course coordinator, so if you need anything, just contact her. If you are interested in cultural life in Prague, Jana can give you some good tips and invite you to evening social events.
In her free time she enjoys listening to punk, ska, electro-swing and rock music, doing sport, spending time with friends, going to festivals and reading books.
Christine Thompson, Career Placement Specialist
Christine is originally from Nashua, New Hampshire. She started her ESL career volunteering for a writing program for refugees in Boston in 1990.
In 1996 Christine moved to Osaka where she worked as a teacher, and eventually a teacher trainer, for one of the largest language schools in Japan. She came to Prague in 2008 to do the DELTA and has been there ever since.
Christine has taught in almost 50 different schools and teaching environments during her career including several private language schools, public primary and junior high schools, universities and private tutoring. She has also worked as a TEFL tutor and teacher trainer and is currently a director of studies and career placement specialist for Prague TEFL.
In her free time, Christine enjoys experimenting with new recipes, reading detective novels and watching period films.
